Journalists from Britain's best-selling motorcycle magazine, Bike, are now well into an epic challenge riding a Suzuki V-Strom 1000 back to the very factory it was built at in Japan, reaching the significant milestone of Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia at the weekend.

Tracked live by Bike Trac, the challenge started out from the Magazine's home of Peterborough in the UK on May 16, with the initial leg to Istanbul taken care of by editor Hugo Wilson. From there Wilson handed the keys to Jamie Duncan, Bike's resident adventure specialist, for what is arguably the toughest leg of the journey.

Since leaving Istanbul, Duncan has ridden the V-Strom on almost every kind of terrain, ticking off Georgia, Azerbaijan, Khazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgystan, Russia and now Mongolia in the process. Equipped with nothing more than a small supply of essentials and without a back-up crew, the trip really is a true adventure for man and machine.

Reaching Ulaanbaatar (the capital of Mongolia) is a significant milestone in the 'Bike to Japan' journey, as it signifies what many consider to be 'the top of the mountain' in eastern overland trips.

Estimating a September arrival in Japan, Duncan will continue his leg of the journey to South Korea, where he will pass the keys to teammate and experienced motorcycle journalist John Westlake, who will take the V-Strom back to its birthplace to conclude the epic adventure.
